Approach
Fascinated by the plasticity of living forms, Dominique Mufraggi lays claim to a contemporary classicism. He seeks to break with classical bronze: in his work, bronze is not just bronze and the base is not just a base, the two forming an assemblage in which the metal resonates with stone and mineral materials.
Among his references he cites Tamara de Lempicka, Gaudí, Édouard Marcel Sandoz and Lalique.
Biography
Dominique Mufraggi was born in 1958. After graduating from the École Boulle in 1978 in intaglio engraving, he turned to volume: sculpture, modelling and metal chasing.
His work was quickly noticed by the houses of the Place Vendôme, for which he works exclusively — Cartier for more than twenty-five years, as well as Dior and Boucheron — on high jewellery projects and exceptional objects.
In the early 2000s he broadened his experience of motifs and volumes on the comics side, with sculptures published in collaboration with Gotlib, Druillet, Bourgeon, Boucq and Godon.
